Home Made Pita Bread !!

Rain , Rain please go away , Come back some other day …

Today It is gloomy , grey and rainy Thursday here . Rain has just not stopped since early morning . So what better then to spend the morning baking some bread and crackers . Decided to give a try to Pita bread first .

I can promise you that after you make this easy pita bread you will never want to buy from the store .

For the Bread we will need :

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup All Purpose Flour
2 tsp. fresh yeast or 4 tsp. dried active yeast
1 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. olive oil

Method:

In a bowl, place the yeast and sugar and pour over some lukewarm water. Leave in a warm spot for about 15 minutes until frothy.

Place the flour in a large mixing bowl. Add salt .

Pour the frothy yeast into the flour and mix well to form a soft dough.

Next, pour olive oil on the side of your mixing bowl and work into the dough. The dough should become soft and smooth .

Cover with cling film or damp cloth and leave in a warm spot to double in size (about 15-20 mins.)
Knock back the dough and divide into 10 to 12equal portions. Leave to rest again for about 5-10 mins.

Roll out each dough to about 6 to 8 inches in diameter.

Put onto a lightly greased and dusted baking sheet and bake for about 4 minutes on each side or until a little brown in a pre-heated oven at 450*F
Watch in pride as they puff up like balloons . They sometimes might bust up at the seams .

You can Enjoy Pita with some falafel , baba ganoush , hummus , kabobs ..
