Spicy SeSame , Jalapeño , Onion and Garlic Crackers…

I wanted to try some crazy new Indian combination in crackers and came up with this one . And surprisingly these came out really good and crispy . So I am Bringing these crackers to Angie’s Fiesta Friday .

We will be needing :

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup All Purpose flour
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 Tbsp white sesame seeds
5 finely chopped jalapeño (Or to taste)
1/4cup chopped Cilantro leaves
1 tsp finely chopped garlic (optional or to taste )
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup oil
2 Tsp salt ( Or to taste)
1/2 Tsp sugar
1/2 Tsp baking powder
1/8 Tsp baking soda

Method :

Sieve the flours with the baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar at least twice to make sure everything is mixed properly .

Mix in rest of the ingredients and make a crumbly dough. Put some pressure with your palms on the dough so that onions starts leavening their juices .

Keep aside for 15 minutes for onions to leave water.
Now add water 1 Tbsp at a time to make a tight dough using your hands .

Knead for 3-4 minutes, cover and set aside for 15 minutes.
Pre heat the oven to 400 F.

Pinch off gooseberry size dough at a time, keep it between 2 oiled wax paper sheets and press down to make a disc.
Or like me roll out a big circle and with the help of pizza cutter and / or cookie cutter cut then into desired size and shapes .

Take these out and lay 1/2 inch apart on a lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes, flip the crackers over and continue baking for another 8-10 minutes or until golden.

Note :
you can try variety of combinations and herbs like Rosemary. Mint ,Thyme, ginger ,cumin just to name a few .

  1. Shailja these crackers looks and sound perfect! I love how you’ve “spiced” them up ~ such a delicious list of ingredients. And great photos to help me along the way as I make them! Yummy 🙂

  2. Your homemade crackers are truly beautiful and so perfectly shaped! I bet the jalapenos really add a marvelous flavor to these (I love jalapenos). I was surprised to see yogurt in the mix, too.

    1. This recipe is used to make indian flat bread called “masala poori ” . I just made a firmer dough and tried making crackers out of it and it worked 🙂
