Chilli chicken is a popular Indo-Chinese dish . Though mainly boneless chicken is used in this dish, some people also use chicken with bones .
In my personal opinion there is no Chinese food like Indian Chinese food and it is because Indian style Chinese cooking takes popular Chinese dishes and adds simple Indian ingredients to it. The result? Magic!!
1lb boneless chicken thighs ( cut into 1 ” inch )
1 egg, slightly beaten ( optional )
1/4cup corn flour
1/2 tsp garlic paste
1/2 tsp ginger paste
1 Tbsp salt or to taste
Oil for deep frying ( I shallow fry )
1 cup onions, thickly sliced
1 cup bell peppers thickly sliced
2 green chillies, thickly sliced (remove seeds if too hot)
1 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust according to strength)
2 Tbsp vinegar
2 tbs ketchup
2 tbs Cilantro for garnishing .( optional)
1 scallion greens cut fine for garnishing ( optional )
Mix together the chicken, egg, cornflour, garlic and ginger paste, 2 tsp salt, and enough water so that the chicken pieces are ‘coated’ with the batter. Leave for about 1/2 an hour.
Heat the oil and deep-fry the chicken pieces over high heat to begin with and then lower the heat till chicken is cooked through. Drain on absorbent paper.
Heat 2 tbsp of the oil in a wok, add onions and stir-fry over high heat till they are translucent.
Add the bell pepper & green chillies and stir a few times, add the remaining salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and the deep fried chicken.
Mix well, and serve garnished with the Cilantro and scallion greens .
Serve Indian Style Chlli Chicken with plan boiled rice , fried rice ,noodles , lo mein or any noodles of your choice
