Shakkar Pare is traditional indian snack . It is usually made during festivals. I remember my mom making many different fried snacks like Shakkar Para & Namak para during festival season .
These are crispy & sweet snack which you can have any time .
These are so tasty that you cannot stop munching. I like to make them in smaller bite size pieces. Well made Shakkarpara is crisp and crunchy but not hard and not overly sweet.
They can be cut into big pieces too but then it will take longer to cook .
For Shakkar Para we will need :
2 cups wheat flour or all purpose flour or 1 cup each .
1/2 cup semolina
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup sugar (powered)
Salt a pinch
Water as required
Oil to deep fry
Mix sugar and water in a bowl in which you are going to knead the dough
Add semolina, salt, 1/2 cup oil and water to the flour and make a firm dough .
Keep this dough aside, covered, for some time ( optional ) I did not .
Now take a small portion of the dough and keep rolling till you get 8-9 inch big circle or ¼ inch thick .
Deep fry in oil on medium heat till Shakkar Paras turns light brown in color.
Your crispy Shakkar Para are ready to eat .
After they cools completely you can store them in a dry container with a tight lid. Enjoy them with a cup of tea or when ever you feel like munching .
Dough should be firm, so shakkarpara will become crispy.
Oil should be on medium-low heat & stir at a regular interval, this will help to give nice evenly golden color
