Fried Fish with Indian Spices ….


This pan-fried fish is a delicious treat & tastes awesome especially hot off the stove and can be eaten as a snack , as- is or as a side with curry and rice for a complete meal.
I sprinkle the fish all over with 1 to 2 tsp of salt and around a 1 tbs of lemon juice & rub with hands & keep it aside for 15 – 20 minutes to get rid or any unpleasant or ‘fishy’ smell . Just before marinading the fish I dry the fish between 2 paper towels, removing all excess moisture.
I always shallow-fry the fish.

This recipe serves 4


1to 1 1/2 lbs firm fish fillets such as Swai, Tilapia , flounder or other fish of your choice
2 tbs Ginger Garlic Paste
1 tsp Finely Chopped Green Chilies { optional }
1 tsp Vinegar
2 tsp crushed whole coriander seeds
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 tbsp Red Chili Powder
1tsp Garam Masala
1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
Salt to Taste
1 tbsp besan / Gram

1 tbsp Rice flour
Oil for frying Or shallow frying


To marinate fish

Wash and pat dry fish.

Take ginger garlic paste, green chili , turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder, garam masala, gram flour as well as rice flour in a mixing bowl
Put fish fillet in the above marinade & coat very well.
Cover and allow it to rest for 15 to 25 mins .
Heat oil in a pan, and shallow or deep fry fish till its golden .
Serve hot with lemon , lime and mint chutney ..


This recipe also works well with shrimp & scallops too .
Adjust the spices to your taste.
Make sure the fish is completely dry before you add it in to the marinade.
