Holi is a spring festival also known as festival of colours, and sometimes festival of love. It is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, as well as people of other communities
Holi celebrations start with a Holika bonfire on the night before Holi The ritual is symbolic of victory of good over evil .
The festival signifies the arrival of spring,a season of joy and hope, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships. People love to drench others and themselves in colored water. People move out in groups and apply colour on each other till they become unrecognizable.
Gujiyas , mathri, malpua and other sweets are offered to everyone who comes across to color. The festival is filled with so much fun and frolic that the very mention of the word ‘Holi’ draws smile and enthusiasm amongst the people.
It is such a colourful and joyous sight to watch huge piles of bright red, magenta, pink, green and blue every where on the streets.
